What Won't Work: Gaze Aversion and Fidgeting
Gaze aversion does occur, of course, and may accompany certain emotions-that is, if the person feeling them doesn't deliberately control the direction of his gaze.
When I train on detection of deception, I ask audiences how many people have heard that gaze aversion is a sign of deception.
The truth is, every sex offender you will ever meet (including young sex offenders just starting out) knows that gaze aversion is thought to be a sign of lying.
It will take more than bad advice about gaze aversion and fidgeting to catch him.
